What is Sowa Rigpa?

Sowa Rigpa, also known in the West as Traditional Tibetan Medicine, is the Buddhist science of healing. It is one of the oldest surviving health systems known to humankind. Sowa Rigpa is a holistic system that encompasses body, speech and mind and restores harmony between these three elements. A balance of these energies ensures well-being and joy in body and mind.

A variety of circumstances, especially diet and lifestyle, can cause disharmony between the three bodily energies of wind, fire and earth/water.
I use the following special methods in my treatments:

- a change in diet tailored to your constitution

- a change in behaviour through lifestyle counselling

- Tibetan massage – Kum Nye – such as partial body massage, special head and foot massage, and heat applications

- Herbal products, such as teas, spices, and salts

These methods restore balance to the body's energies and ensure harmony and joy in body and mind. Deep relaxation and holistic well-being can be experienced far beyond the treatment itself.

Principles

The principles of Tibetan medicine are based on the teachings of the five elements that make up the world: wind, fire, water, earth, and space. These are present in the external world around us, as well as in our own bodies through three energies (Tib. nyepa). The three energies in the body are called lung, tripa, and badkan (pronounced beken) in Tibetan medicine. When the elements or energies are in harmony, the result is health and long life. However, when they are out of balance, they cause disease.

The goal of Tibetan medicine

The goal of Tibetan medicine is to achieve balance between body and mind, which is the basis of happiness. By ensuring that they function properly, we support our vitality and energy, thereby achieving relief from physical and mental suffering. This process involves working on ourselves and our habits. Thanks to this, we can understand the cause of our difficulties and discover inner balance and strength.
